Toshiba A200 and Windows XP

I bought Toshiba A200 series (PSAE6). As usual Toshiba is windows oriented which came with Windows Vista.

In the second day I erased this Vista thing completely and forever to install XPSP2 on it and I did. I faced many problems like the sound card, memory reader and unknown PCI memory controller.

Audio Controller:

After digging and digging and working according to the instructions and the suggested solutions on some forums which didn’t work with me. I found the solution and it might help you out, here is the steps:

NOTE: This notebook came with dedicated ATI graphics card and this card has HD audio controller which needs to be defined. The other audio controller is Realtek which came with the motherboard.

1) Installing windows xp sp2 and updating the BIOS with bios-xp-update.

2) Enabling auto update service.

3) Update the windows by running (start -> update windows).

4) After installing everything you can, install ATI Radeon HD graphics card.

5) Installing sound card driver, Realtek one (downloaded from Toshiba site).

6) Go to device manager, and expand “system devices” list. You shall see unknown PCI devices items. right click – properties and update the driver. You will see that the windows will find the new hardware which is the sound drive.

7) Update the second PCI device. I tried many times till it found it… don’t ask me why or how.

8 ) Restart you computer.

Now, PCI Memory controller:

As reported on Toshiba forum “PCI Memory Controller is Intel Turbo Memory also called Intel Flash cache logic chip somewhere called also Robson device. It is quite new technology designed to support new Vista capabilities.
There is no driver for it for Windows XP, because XP doesn’t support this cache functionality, its supported only by Vista.

So leave it unrecognized, it wont affect the system functionality. Maybe in future they will release some driver and support for this technology under XP. “

Hi man, thanx it is work with some magics.

regarding to the card reader it is also working by install Flash media driver (fmd-20071218093154)and SD Utilities (sdutils-20071218093933) from Toshiba website.

Now, everything is working on my device else the bluetooth ,, Is it work with u?

Have a bit of a problem… under SP2 all is workin except “Integrated High Definition Audio Bus” -> ID: SUBSYS_00AA0100&REV_1000

Please help.

Hi Jernej, actually i can’t help you here.
All i can say that you have a problem with ATI graphics card because it has the definition of HD audio. So, I suggest to reinstall ATI driver.

Well, I’m actually thinking about installing Windows XP on my Toshiba A200 1QK, but i’d like to get an opinion from someone who has already done that.

The question is, was the notebook performance increased significantly? I’d answer myself right away, with an Yes, because Win XP usually only comsumes 300MB of RAM to run smoothly, while Vista needs 600MB, but I’ll still wait for a concrete answer to this question.

Well Rui, I’m not familiar with Vista to tell you if its better or not.
I’m a Linux user (fedora8 ) and I use WindowsXP for games and other micro programs.

Linux consumes most of the RAM on your device for better management.

I’ll share my opinion with you saying if you want visual effects go for Vista and if you want easiness and performance but not security go for XPSP2

hi faris first of all i tried to install the xp but i t didnt see the hard disk so i bought an external floppy disk and finaly the xp have seen the hard but after installing the computer enters an endless restarting loop and every time the xp shows the blue screen and restart

It’s very hard to know the exact reason behind blue screen of death, but, it’s usually related to hardware issues.

It seems that the system has installed incompatible driver for one of machine’s devices, try to access windows using safe mode, if it keeps working in safe mode try to investigate the problem using event viewer to determine which driver is the source of this problem.

If you face the same problem again in safe mode, try to use another driver for hard disk other than the one you are using.

I am in a bit of a pickle too. I managed to dual boot my XP over my previously installed vista and got all the wireless drivers and video drivers working perfectly. I also installed the realtek audio driver specific to my system but I am stuck on the audio. My default error message is that beep that sounds when you change settings in your bios menu. I believe it has something to do with HD Audio Controller which is a driver in the other side of my system, the Windows Vista Side. Would really like some help on this issue, I really want to be able to use my XP partition for games, as Vista really sucks up the RAM and CPU.

Well Tilahun, Its been long time i didnt use windows. But as I can remember, go to bios configuration (the blue screen) and change the sequence of the booting
put Dvd/CD-Rom at the top of the list.
Now put your WinXP disk and restart.
then press Enter when u c something like that “booting from CD……”
Here, you will go there the installation process where u can select one of the methods i guess that erase Vista for ever and install XP.

I’m not sure, because I dont use windows any more
but I think you should install motherboard driver and then
install “keyboard multimedia” driver

Hi,

I’ve managed to install XP on a A200.
But I can’t get the FN keys (for brightness) to work.
I can’t finde drivers for the flash card support for XP.
Can enyone help me ??

Hi Faris, i’m george & i do have the toshiba satellite A200 PSAE6. it’s a great laptop. i left the vista thing and i installed xp as a dual boot os. & they both are working properly. i also dowloaded all the drivers for xp, sound vga memory reader … everything thing. just the Intel Flash cache logic chip isn’t working. so if u r interested in any driver please contact me & i’ll send u the driver. tc.
